Windows 10X: Microsoft reportedly shelves its ambitious lightweight operating system

Windows 10X is apparently dead.  Microsoft ’s long-awaited Windows 10X operating system, its Chrome OS competitor, has been cancelled. According to Petri, Microsoft won’t ship the operating system anytime soon. The Windows 10X, which many thought would be a fresh take on Windows 10, was supposed to come first on single-screen devices designed for education and business use. While Microsoft may have stopped the development of Windows 10X, the company is still expected to bring some elements of the operating system to Windows 10 later this year. It is said that the Redmond, Washington-based software powerhouse is reportedly working on the updated version of Windows 10 with a refreshed UX. Codenamed “Sun Valley”, Windows 10 will see a brand new user interface and app containers.   The cancellation of Windows 10, if the report is true, is a big blow to Microsoft. When the company announced Windows 10X at its high-profile event in New York in 2019, it said the operating...

Azure Defender security team discovers that memory allocation is a systemic problem that can allow threat actors to execute malicious code remotely or cause entire systems to crash. Microsoft To Finally Add AAC Codec Support For Bluetooth Devices To Windows 10

Microsoft's planning a major release for Windows 10 at the end of the year which should include support for AAC audio through Bluetooth. For the uninitiated, AAC or Advanced Audio Codec is important for "lossless" audio streaming to Apple's headphones and will also benefit iTunes and Apple Music playback on Windows. Typically, Windows 10 supports a handful of industry-standard audio codecs like AptX but still doesn't quite cover all the popular ones. Apple, meanwhile, has supported Advanced Audio Coding for sometime now as a high-quality lossy codec for streaming audio wirelessly. Naturally, that has prompted other services and audio device makers to also support the codec. As  per a report by  The Verge , on top of AAC support, Microsoft will also better how Windows handles Bluetooth inputs. As of now, Windows will show multiple devices for different Bluetooth profiles — for example, with the Surface Headphones connected to a Windows 10 device, you might se...
