Karnataka to begin vaccination for 18-44 age group from May 10

The Karnataka government Sunday announced that Covid-19 vaccination will be provided to citizens aged 18-44 across the state on Monday (May 10). According to Health and Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar, vaccines will be provided at district hospitals, government medical colleges and taluk-level hospitals across the state to begin with. “In Bengaluru, vaccines will be provided for citizens aged between 18 to 44 years at KC General Hospital, Jayanagar General Hospital, Sir C.V.Raman General Hospital, Government Medical Colleges, ESI Hospitals and NIMHANS,” he mentioned. However, the government has stressed that registration on the CoWin portal is mandatory and that walk-ins will not be allowed. “All such vaccination centres will have an exclusive session site earmarked for people aged 18 to 44. Delhi govt extends Covid-19 lockdown till May 17

     Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said his government has decided to extend the lockdown for another week till May 17. Kejriwal added that the government has decided to impose a stricter lockdown this time, as metro services will also be suspended. The chief minister said the decision to extend the lockdown for another week has been taken after thorough consultation with traders, women and youth. While the positivity rate in the national capital has come down to 23% from 35% in the last two to three days, he said, the situation still needs to be improved and taken under control. He said that the positivity rate in the Capital on April 26 stood as high as 35 per cent and it was after that the cases gradually started declining as the chain of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) infections began to break. Full Kerala lockdown from May 8 to 16 as Covid-19 surge shows no signs of slowing down

The Kerala government on Thursday announced a full lockdown in the state from May 8 to 16 in view of the rising cases in the second wave of Covid-19 . The decision was announced a day after the state reported a record 41,953 infections. The lockdown will come into force at 6 am on Saturday. The state had earlier brought in strict restrictions that prevented unnecessary travel and reduced attendance in offices. However, health experts and police departments advised the government to impose a complete lockdown as the current measures were failing to bring down the state’s Covid-19 graph. Lockdown in Kerala from May 8 to 16

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A total lockdown has been declared in Kerala from May 8 to May 16 in view of the rapid surge in Covid-19 cases in the state. The state is on lockdown-like restrictions since May 4. However, the health department has asked the state government to go for a total lockdown since the daily tally of coronavirus cases had crossed 30,000. On Wednesday, above 40,000 Covid-19 cases were reported in the state. Most of the districts in the state are having test positivity rate (TPR) above 20% for the past two weeks. The government has made it clear that there is no other alternative. The entire State of Kerala will be under lockdown from 6am on 8 May to 16 May. Karnataka gets new oxygen concentrators - none from Union gov

Karnataka, one of the worst affected states by the second wave of coronavirus infections, faces a lack of liquid oxygen supply, even leading to deaths in hospitals in the state. In an interview to TNM, Karnataka Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar told TNM that the state government has purchased 400 oxygen concentrators to help during the crisis, and is expecting another 600 that they have purchased. 5G Spectrum Trials Approved By Government; No Chinese Tech For Trials

Telecom Department on Tuesday, May 4, gave go-ahead for 5G technology and spectrum trials to telecom service providers (TSPs). Bharti Airtel, Reliance JioInfocomm, Vodafone Idea and MTNL will start 5G trials in different locations across India to cover rural, semi-urban and urban areas. The list of telecom gear makers approved for trials include Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, C-DOT and Reliance Jio's indigenously developed technologies. This means that Chinese gear makers will not be part of the 5G trials. "The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) approved today permissions to Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) for conducting trials for use and applications of 5G technology. The applicant TSPs include Bharti Airtel Ltd, Reliance JioInfocomm Ltd, Vodafone Idea Ltd and MTNL," Telecom Department said in a statement. The number of new Covid infections in India has officially passed 20 million cases, even as the government says that infection rates are coming down. Six injured in huge fire at Iran's alcohol production factory

A big fire broke out on Sunday morning in an industrial alcohol production plant near the central Iranian city of Qom, injuring six, a media report said. The fire was reported around 06:00 a.m. local time (0130 GMT) in the industrial park of Shokuhiyeh, located 20 km from Qom, according to a local fire department spokesperson.   More than 100 firefighters were immediately deployed to extinguish the fire, preventing it from reaching the tanks of alcohol and other flammable items, the Xinhua news agency reported.   Six people were injured in the fire, including two severely injured firemen and four other people who sustained superficial wounds, a spokesperson of the emergency services said.   An emergency has been declared in the area and all relevant local organizations have been mobilized to control the fire, including Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, Tasnim reported.
