NEET-PG exam postponed for 4 months, medical interns can be deployed for Covid duty

Amidst the rising COVID-19 cases in the country, the Centre on Monday postponed NEET-PG exam for four months and allowed medical interns to be deployed in Covid management duties under the supervision of their faculty. "A decision was taken to postpone NEET-PG for at least 4 months and the exam will not be held before 31st August 2021. Students will also be given atleast one month of time after announcement of exam before it is conducted. This will make a large number of qualified doctors available for Covid duties," the government said in a release. Besides, it allowed utilising services of final year PG students (broad as well as super-specialities) as residents until fresh batches of PG students join. "It was also decided to allow deployment of medical interns in Covid Management duties under the supervision of their faculty, as part of the internship rotation."   In order to further augment the manpower to find the pandemic, the government said services

10 states with over 100,000 active cases as India’s caseload remains above 3 mln

India’s active caseload of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) stood at 3,170,228 as its infection tally ballooned over 18.7 million, the Union ministry of health and family welfare’s data showed. It currently accounts for 16.90 per cent of the total confirmed infections in the country and has increased by 85,414 cases in the last 24 hours. The active cases have been increasing steadily during the second wave of the pandemic and crossed the three-million-mark on Thursday. On April 10, it crossed the one-milliommark and was reported at 1,046,631 cases.   The Union health ministry on Friday red-flagged 10 states for contributing the highest to the national tally of active cases. IIT Bombay launches free online course on PHP and MySQL

IIT Bombay is offering a free online course on PHP and MySQL for interested participants on the SWAYAM platform. This AICTE approved FDP course is basically a spoken tutorial that participants can access once they are registered on the platform. The entire course can be completed in 15 weeks, and are self-explanatory in nature. There are both audio and video study materials available. The course instructor is Kannan M Moudgalya who is a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. He has a BTech in chemical engineering from IIT Madras, a Master’s in electrical engineering and a PhD in chemical engineering from Rice University. Chennai police thwart child marriage in Royapuram

     CHENNAI: An all-women police team stopped the marriage of a 16-yearold girl at a marriage hall in Royapuram on Monday. Police handed over the girl to child helpline volunteers. Based on a tip-off, the team visited the hall and found that the girl was getting dressed for the wedding. Police asked her parents to produce documents to prove her age. During questioning, the girl's parents confessed that their daughter was a minor. The police warned and let them off. "We told them that they would face legal action if they tried to marry off the girl before she is 18," said a police officer. A team of child helpline volunteers advised the girl's parents to continue her studies and inform them while they arranged her marriage when she is an adult.

Anna University writes to govt. seeking new dates for exams

  Anna University has written to the Department of Higher Education seeking new dates for the end-semester examinations. On December 22 last, Chief Secretary K. Shanmugam had written to the Registrars of all universities, setting the approximate dates for the examinations to be held online. Anna University was given the period from January 2 to 20 for its odd-semester examinations. The university had asked the autonomous colleges in December to conduct the examinations. These colleges were through with them. The non-autonomous colleges affiliated to the university are awaiting instructions. Teachers of the non-autonomous affiliated colleges said the second- and third-year students were idling away their time for two months as the teachers had completed the syllabus. ‘Huge exercise’ Anna University Vice-Chancellor M.K.
