Coronavirus Updates

Will WhatsApp delete your account on May 15 if you don’t accept its controversial privacy policy update? No, but it will eventually

In its FAQ page, updated on Friday, WhatsApp reiterates twice that it won’t delete your account if you don’t accept its controversial new privacy policy update on May 15. Users won’t lose functionality of WhatsApp either which means you can continue to use all its features including text and video calling like before. Needless to say, this was a major concern among many users even though WhatsApp claims a majority of those who have received the new terms of service have accepted them already. WhatsApp has started to display a banner within the app “providing more information that people can read at their own pace.” There are essentially three points that it is highlighting in all its communications: The update does not affect the privacy of your messages with your friends and family in any way. It does not expand its ability to share data with parent firm Facebook anywhere in the world (WhatsApp has been sharing some user data like phone numbers with Facebook since 2016). The changes ...

WhatsApp to become increasingly less useful if you don't accept its new terms

WhatsApp has clarified how it will be treating the accounts of users who won't be accepting its updated terms and policy. The information was posted on the company's official website For those who choose not to accept the company's updated terms, the app will continue to show a notification asking to accept. After a period of several weeks, the users will see a persistent reminder. Once users see a persistent reminder, the WhatsApp app will switch to a limited functionality mode. In this mode, users won't be able to access their chat list. If they receive a chat, they will be able to open it through their notifications and also respond to them. Any incoming audio and video calls can also be received. A few weeks later, the user will stop receiving all calls and messages. WhatsApp doesn't put an exact date on any of these events, giving a nebulous period for each state that will seemingly vary based on users. Also, it's not clear what relevance the previously men...

What is AI? Everything you need to know about Artificial Intelligence

WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)? It depends who you ask. Back in the 1950s, the fathers of the field,  Minsky  and  McCarthy , described artificial intelligence as any task performed by a machine that would have previously been considered to require human intelligence. Modern definitions of what it means to create intelligence are more specific. Francois Chollet, AI researcher at Google and creator of the machine-learning software library Keras, has said intelligence is tied to a system's ability to adapt and improvise in a new environment, to generalise its knowledge and apply it to unfamiliar scenarios. "Intelligence is the efficiency with which you acquire new skills at tasks you didn't previously prepare for,"  he said . "Intelligence is not skill itself, it's not what you can do, it's how well and how efficiently you can learn new things." It's a definition under which modern AI-powered systems, such as virtual assistants, w...
