‘Violence not a solution to any problem’: Political reactions pour in amid tractor rally chaos in Delhi
New Delhi: As clashes erupted in several parts of Delhi during the farmers' tractor march on Tuesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and several other political leaders deplored the mayhem, saying that "violence is not a solution to any problem".
Thousands of protesting farmers stormed into Delhi
with their tractor rally this morning and also entered the iconic Red Fort and
ITO in the heart of the national capital, triggering violent face-offs with
police. A section of protesting farmers also hoisted flags from some domes of
the iconic monument.
Security personnel resorted to lathicharge and tear
gas as hundreds of protesters deviated from pre-designated routes way before
the pre-decided time.
Expressing ire over the chaos, Gandhi tweeted,
“Violence is not a solution to any problem. Whoever gets hurt, the loss is of
the country. Take back the anti-farmers law for the benefit of the country.”
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also criticised the
violence, saying that he supported farmers’ protest from the start but cannot
“condone lawlessness”.
“Most unfortunate. I have supported the farmers’
protests from the start but I cannot condone lawlessness. And on #RepublicDay
no flag but the sacred tiranga should fly aloft the Red Fort,” he said in a
tweet.
