Google Will Start Automatically Enrolling Users in Two-Step-Verification (2SV) Soon

Google will start automatically enrolling users in two-step verification (2SV), or two-factor authentication. The development was shared by Google via a blog post. Currently, Google gives an option of enrolling in two-step-verification to its users which, if enrolled, gives them a prompt on their smartphone when signing in to verify if they are the ones actually signing in to their account. Google says this is an attempt to increase security as passwords are the single biggest threat to online security. Mark Risher, Director of Product Management, Identity and User Security at Google , explains through a blog post that people try to make their passwords long and complicated to make them more difficult to crack. This sometimes increases security risks as people them use the same password for multiple accounts. Risher says 66 percent of Americans admitted to using the same password across multiple sites. To overcome this hurdle, Google incorporated a second form of verification alongsid

This Tiny Dinosaur Hunted At Night And Could Hear Better Than An Owl

A new study has revealed that a tiny, carnivorous dinosaur, which had an exceptional low-light vision and whose hearing ability was as good as an owl's, hunted its prey at night. Measuring only 2 feet, the three-toed dinosaur species named Shuvuuia had large eyes and longer cochlea — the part of the inner ear canal that holds sensory receptors. The creature used these abilities to see in the dark and hear even better than the barn owl. This particular species roamed the Earth about 75 million to 81 million years ago (late Cretaceous period) in the present-day Gobi Desert region in Mongolia. Shuvuuia, though related to the fearsome Tyrannosaurus rex (T-rex), was an odd-looking dinosaur. Animals that live together in a geographic location are forced to share their resources to survive and to outwit their competition they tend to develop nocturnal and daytime preferences for hunting their prey, the researchers say. But, they add, it is difficult to know this preference by just lo

US FTC States Repair Restrictions Imposed by Manufacturers Impact Consumer Rights, Small Businesses

US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has submitted a report examining consumer protection and antitrust issues relating to repair restrictions that manufacturers impose, especially in the mobile phone and car industry. These repair restrictions include using adhesives that make it difficult to replace parts, making diagnostic software unavailable, and limiting the availability of spare parts. These repair restrictions hurt small businesses as well as impact consumer rights under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. It also states the actions that the FTC can take in some cases of anti-repair practices. The US FTC report submitted to Congress mentions that it has become increasingly hard to repair and maintain many consumer products as they often require specialised tools, access to proprietary diagnostic software, or have parts that are difficult to obtain. This not only makes it near impossible for consumers to repair their phones or other devices, but also limits a small repair shop

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 could cost less than we thought

Most cutting edge technology starts off expensive and then gets cheaper over time, and that's likely to be the case for foldable phones as well – and a new leak suggests that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 might not cost quite as much as its predecessor. The 5G-ready Galaxy Z Flip that launched in June 2020 originally retailed for $1,449 / £1,399 / AU$2,599, but a new leak from tipster @FrontTron on Twitter suggests that the next clamshell-style foldable from Samsung is going to sell for $999-$1,199. A straight currency conversion puts that at £715-£860 / AU$1,275-AU$1,530 but that's not how Samsung will set the prices. Perhaps a better way to think about the rumored cost of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is that it's going to cost a third less than the model that came before it. That's a hefty drop, and considering we haven't heard much from this particular source before, it's wise to treat this as very much unconfirmed for the time being – even though we'd be very h

Total Lockdown In Tamil Nadu For 2 Weeks From Monday Amid Covid Crisis

The Tamil Nadu government has announced a two week "total lockdown" from May 10 amid a surge in COVID-19 cases. The order was issued a day after the state recorded its biggest day spike of over 26,000 new Covid infections. Chief Minister MK Stalin, in a statement, said that the lockdown was being enforced due to "unavoidable reasons". The decision, Mr Stalin added, was taken based on inputs received at a review meeting he had with district collectors on Friday, besides consultations with medical experts. "The total lockdown will be enforced from 4 am on May 10 to 4 am on May 24," he said. Other services and tasks allowed to continue during the lockdown are banks (with 50 per cent staff) and ration shops. Restaurants will only be allowed takeaways. ust 12% of global iOS users and 4% of US ones have allowed app tracking since the iOS 14.5 rollout

Nobody was ever in doubt that Apple's new anti-app tracking (ATT) feature, rolled-out with iOS 14.5 would have a major impact on the way targeted advertisement works and consequently, any company with a business model built around it. Like Facebook and its subsidiaries, like Instagram - some of the most severely-affected parties and naturally among the most vocal against ATT .                         Having a hunch that a certain change is significant, though, is not the same as getting some actual data on just how significant it is. The Verizon Media-owned Flurry Analytics has its mobile analytics services integrated in over 1 million mobile applications and collects aggregate insights on over 2 billion mobile devices each month. According to Flurry's data, just around 12% of global users have allowed app tracking for apps that requested it on their devices post the iOS 14.5 update. And that number is just 4% in the US. Just to clarify, in case you are not familiar with how A

How to check DMs on Instagram without being “seen”

Many of us interact with people who are not our friends on Instagram, and sometimes you might want to check a message that they have sent but not be “seen”. When you check any DM on Instagram, it is immediately marked as “seen” for both you and the other person who has sent it. WhatsApp has the option of turning off read receipts (the blue ticks) but Instagram has no such feature. Whether you follow the person or not, if you have seen a message sent by them, it will be marked as “seen” and the person on the other side will know. So for whatever reason you might have not wanted to be “seen” having read that message, maybe you don't have time or inclination to engage in the conversation further, or you just don't want to talk, it makes the situation a little awkward. However, there are two ways how you can check DMs on Instagram without it being marked as “seen”. One is a temporary solution, the other is more permanent. Depending on why you want to not be “seen” reading the DMs,
